Green Shoots

5_23_1After a cold spring, signs of life are stirring in the fields at Triple Chick Farm, kindling thoughts of summer and another season of bracing swims, cobalt skies and bountiful harvests. Our first asparagus crop is poking through, tulips are on the way and the rhubarb promises to be bountiful yet again.

This year we are excited to open the farm stand on Memorial Day weekend – a full month ahead of last year’s July 4th opening day. We will bring back the opening day organic lemonade stand and may have a few tomato seedlings on hand too. The farm stand will be open every Saturday from 10:00-4:00 through July 4th and then Thursdays-Saturdays through Labor Day.

Our popular weekly subscription service is also back for this season. Small subscriptions will start on July 15th and large subscriptions on August 1st. The greenhouses are bursting with lettuce, herbs, beets, salad turnips, Swiss chard, spinach and radishes as well as flats and flats of this year’s tomatoes, cucumbers and annual flowers. There are even a few artichokes on hand – but more for show at this point. By Saturday, May 25th, we should have the fixings for salad perfection – and with a quick trip to Fiore in Bar Harbor for the world’s best selection of oils and vinegars, a loaf of bread and some Seal Cove goat cheese, who could ask for anything more.

See you at the farm soon.
