Hooray for Hakurei: Best Beloved

Its true, I have a favorite.   Hakurei, the Japanese turnips are unlike anything else.  Small and tender, they can be eaten raw in a salad right along with their mildly spicy greens.  They can also be baked in a gratin or sauteed but mine never last that long.  The flavor is sweet, like a radish without the bite.  Until we got involved with the farm, I had never eaten one of these gems.  Now that I know what I was missing, I can barely wait for them to get full size.  I ate a whole bunch in the car one year, greens and all.  They will be at the Farm Stand tomorrow and for the next few Saturdays.   Get them while they last.
